12noon Gathering
for a rally in Whitworth Park, with speeches, announcements, info
stalls and vegan refreshments. The march won't start until 1.30pm
at the earliest, so don't worry if you can't make it for this time.
12.15pm
- 1.30pm Speeches from campaigners and others,
and announcements.
Speakers confirmed so far include (some
of these will speak in Albert Square after the march:
Dr Adrian Stallwood - Animal Aid
Helder Constantino - National Anti-Vivisection Society/Animal Defenders
International
Richard Deboo - (formerly of Animals Count)
Dr Andre Menache - Antidote Europe
Someone
from the following groups will also speak on the day.
Manchester Animal Action
Manchester University Animal Rights
Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty
National Anti-Vivisection Alliance
There will also be poetry readings by
the Vegan Poet, Dominique Berry.
1.30pm
March sets off along Oxford Rd, past Manchester
University which carries out animal experiments, and also past Manchester
Metropolitan University which doesn't. Then the march goes through
the centre of Manchester, along the length of Deansgate and back along
Cross St, ending in Albert Square by the Town Hall.
3.15pm
Rally with mores speeches, info etc in Albert
Square by the Town Hall.
4pm
to 8pm Info & Social event At Cross St Chapel,
(M2 1NL) very close to where the march ends. Here there will be stalls
with info about all the various campaigns, as well as a variety of
vegan food and drink, and some entertainment too.
Choice of Two night social events, or
you can even do both as they're not far apart.
7.30pm
to Midnight (maybe later). Social evening at
Okasional Vegan Cafe, with food, entertainment and info. Okasional
Vegan Cafe and Community Space, Liverpool Rd, opposite the Museum
of Science and Industry M2 5PD, see map below.
Punk
Benefit Gig for WDAIL at the Cavendish. Bands include The
Systematice, Rev Porl, Total Bloody Chaos and Harry Callaghan. At
the Cavendish, Stretford Road, Hulme, M15 6BQ, see map below. Opens
5.30pm, first band is around 7pm
Accommodation
If you need accommodation in Manchester on either
the Friday or Saturday night, please let us know in advance and give
us plenty of notice if possible.
What
to Bring: If possible please make and
bring your own protest materials such as banners, placards, costumes,leaflets,
and drums etc. There will be placards etc there for you to use, but
the more varied, creative and colourful we can make the march the
better it will be.
Volunteers:
If you would like to help out on the day there
are a variety of volunteering jobs, at the rally, on the mardch and
also at the info event afterwards. Please contact us if you can help.
